Discover the heritage, stories, and nature surrounding Springfield House. Whether you stop by spontaneously or book a guided tour, your visit supports the preservation of this historic estate and its community legacy.
Visitors enter through the reception area, where large bookshelves, a fireplace, and antique furniture set the scene. Some of these pieces date back to the late 19th century, while others reflect the early 20th century, giving the space a timeless, authentic character.
The former bedroom of John Dana Archbold is also on display, preserved with exquisite furniture. Its centerpiece is a coubaril wood four-poster bed, accompanied by a grand armoire and a shaving stand of brass and wood. The stand includes its original brass candle holder and round wood-framed mirror — remarkable survivals from the 19th century.
Surrounding Springfield House, the gardens and nature walk invite you to explore Dominica’s landscape and living heritage. Ancient trees shade the hillside, while flowering plants and fruit trees trace paths first planted in the Archbold era. Along the way, you’ll find benches and resting places where you can pause to listen to the birds and the wind through the valley.
